Seven months to go, and I realize I haven’t yet paid homage to the longest season of the year here in this northern prairie town. So, things I will miss about Edmonton in the winter …
How -20 can feel like -2 if the sun is out
Incredibly long shadows at high noon
The sun is low enough to watch through my kitchen window from sunrise to sunset
Hoarfrost (an admittedly ugly word to describe something so beautiful)
That’s not counting the wind chill.
What someone once called “the impossible indigo of an Edmonton winter sky”
And how the river valley is still the river valley, just frozen and waiting for spring, like all of us.
